The Burden of Knowledge

The Burden of Knowledge or the Light of Wisdom?

Participant: Parth, why does knowledge make people egoistic? Shouldn’t knowing more make us wiser?

Parth:

Ah, see, knowledge itself is not the problem. It is like food—if you digest it well, it nourishes you; if you simply keep stuffing yourself, it makes you sick. Most people are not digesting what they know; they are just hoarding information. When you gather without grasping, when you accumulate without assimilating, then what happens? You become bloated with opinions but empty of wisdom.

Ego is just this—it is a resistance to what is. The more you hold on to what you think you know, the less life can touch you. And when life cannot touch you, you start rejecting anything that does not fit into your little box of knowledge. This is why the most knowledgeable people are often the most rigid. They do not see life; they only see their conclusions.

But if you truly experience something—if knowledge becomes a living reality within you—then it is no longer just information, it is transformation. And when transformation happens, ego cannot survive. Because wisdom is not about rejecting anything; it is about including everything as a part of yourself. Then, there is no need for walls, no need for resistance. You simply flow with life, as life.

That is the difference—do you want to be a stagnant pond of information or a flowing river of wisdom?

Drowning in Information, Starving for Clarity

Look at this! The whole world is drowning in information. Everyone knows everything—at least, they think so. But tell me, do they know themselves? No. They know what is happening in someone else’s mind. They can analyze, comment, and debate endlessly. But their own mind? A complete mystery.

Why is this happening? Because people have become deprived of fire in their hearts. When there is no fire within, the mind becomes restless, hopping from one piece of information to another. This is attention deficit in a sophisticated form. But because it is dressed in intellect, people don’t recognize it.

See, if you do not have necessary attention, your mind will simply flutter from one thing to another. And with every new piece of information, your senses expand a little, and you think, “Ah! This is success!” No, no. Success is not an accumulation of facts. Success is a celebration. When people around you celebrate who you are and what you do—not because you know A for apple, but because you are truly alive—only then you are successful.

Fire or Frustration?

For a whole lot of people, knowledge is coming out of frustration. You might think this is pure knowledge, but as you grow it within you, it has the capability to destroy you for good. When you have fire in your heart, it becomes crystal clear, and you start to see things the way they are. This gives you total fulfillment of who you are because with this kind of fire in your heart, you become perceptive.

Knowledge is power, no doubt about it, but whether it crushes you or makes you wise depends on you. If you implement your knowledge and internalize it, power becomes personal power. But for a whole lot of people, they know how to accumulate it, but they do not know how to make it into personal power.

Now, you must understand this. When there is fire in your heart, you do not become reckless. You become intensely focused, deeply involved. But if you simply accumulate information without experiencing it, without making it a living reality in you, then what happens? Rejection arises. You become constipated with knowledge. You start resisting anything that does not fit into what you think you know. This is not intelligence; this is self-imposed ignorance.

If you read a book or watch a video and think you know, but you have not lived it, not tasted it in your own experience, then it is like swallowing food without digesting it. It just sits there, rotting inside you.

Life is not about information; it is about transformation. If you burn with the right fire within, you will see—knowing will happen effortlessly. And more than that, life will happen in its full glory.

The Lost Opportunity of Learning

Children today are not interested in reading a book. Instead, they feel good watching a video. This is a completely different understanding of life. If you observe, you will see—watching a video takes you away from your own mind. Your mind becomes a slave to many different hotspots. But if you read, if you are involved in reading, if you keep reading with minute focus, and with the necessary sadhana, naturally, you come to a standstill and become aware of your breathing.

Reading, if done with attention, pushes you into breath-watching. This breath-watching is itself a different dimension of intelligence. What a child can learn in one year, another can grasp in a second. This is the power of true learning. But this opportunity has been completely lost among children today because parents do not know how to convert knowledge into personal power.

If they themselves do not know the power of transformation, what will they teach their children? One thing they do is, when the child does not feel like cramming the book, they start chanting the mantra—"Study, study, study!" They think by telling their child to study, one day they will study. The result? It creates resistance towards learning. What could be the highest method for transformation, they are suffering it instead.

This is the most unfortunate reality on earth today. A Guru comes and sees this misfortune all the time. But everyone is busy doing every kind of nonsense in their own way, trying to trick the mind.

And what happens in the end? The child becomes a rebel—not in the sense of questioning life, but in rejecting it. He becomes numb, shuts the doors of perception, and is simply finished. Soon, you will see, he will naturally seek drugs. Because when perception stops, when there is no necessary attention, you will simply roll into chemicals of various kinds just to suppress your suffering and become unconscious. These are ways to become a good rebel.

Do you want to be a conscious rebel who transforms the world, or a rebel who only seeks escape? That choice is always yours.

Editor's Note:

In an era where information is abundant but wisdom is scarce, Parth challenges us to look beyond intellectual accumulation and step into true experiential knowledge. This blog serves as a reminder that real transformation happens not through knowing more but by becoming more.

Ego thrives on rigid knowledge, while wisdom flourishes in lived experience. The choice is ours—will we merely collect information, or will we internalize and embody it? The fire within determines whether knowledge remains a burden or becomes a source of personal power.
