Money, Mind, and Power: The Great Illusion
Parth: The Root of Your Struggles is Your Own Mind
Participant: Parth, I feel like my whole life revolves around money—earning it, saving it, spending it. I see people doing anything for it. Why has money become so powerful?
Parth: Money is not power. Your mind has turned it into power. This is the problem. The mind holds onto what it considers most valuable, and that is how it stays focused. Mind means knowledge. But in today’s world, mind means money.
Power was supposed to come from knowledge. But today, power has become money, and money has become the mind. If your mind is fixated only on money, tell me, can it ever be free? If everything in your life is a transaction, it will never bring well-being.
The moment you start thinking, What will I get? in every action, your mind becomes like diarrhea—splashing everywhere, with no direction or focus. It spreads thin and restless, jumping from one thing to another.
The Free Trap: Why Some People Never Move Forward
When you want something for free, you start evaluating where to put your valuable money. But the moment your mind is weighing too many options, it will never move in one direction. Even if I give you something for free, your mind will still not settle. Unless you mortgage your so-called power to someone, your mind will remain fickle.
If you make things free for a restless mind, you will destroy that person. Because such a mind will always remain scattered—it will never learn to handle itself. A fickle mind always looks for free things. But for someone who is focused and one-pointed in their existence, everything is already free.
Power and the Price You Pay
As your mind becomes loose and scattered in every direction, there is a fee to pay—you either work your ass off, or you pay the price. Until you let go of the illusion that you have power, you will not come to terms with life.
Right now, you believe your 1000 bucks is more valuable than life itself. So, unless you lose all your money, or something bad happens that makes you feel completely powerless, you will not understand life. You mistakenly think money is power. That is why you hold onto it so tightly. Slowly, you become miserly.
“Money is power. I will not give my power to anyone else.”
Then, you start looking for deals where you get something for free. This makes you a beggar. You may not be begging on the streets, but you say, I will pay later, take the item, and disappear—that makes you a thief.
Money is Just Access, Not Power
Money is not power. It is just a medium of transaction in the larger world. If you were in a village, you could exchange things directly. But today, you want to exchange your curry leaves with someone in New Zealand, where they don’t need them. Instead, you want value for them so they can buy something else with that value. That is money.
How did your curry leaves become power? They are just food to eat. But the transactions you made gave you some access, and you mistook that access for ultimate power. It is just access, nothing more.
Let’s say you have a bat, and I have a ball. We could come together and play. But today, there is no need for that—you can simply go and buy both the bat and the ball yourself. This is the freedom money gives you. But you mistake this freedom as power.
Energy, Money, and the Power to Destroy Yourself
When you eat food, you gain energy. But converting that energy into power is a different game. Once you have energy from food, what do you do? Where do you spend it? Most people spend it recklessly.
- Some will seek excessive pleasure.
- Some will fight for no reason.
- Some will disturb the natural order.
Once you have energy, it will destroy you if you don’t learn to handle it. Either you let it out in destructive ways, or you learn to convert it.
That is why, for many, it is good they don’t have money when they are not ready. At least they will eat little, gain little, spend little, and be okay. This is why people who have seen the madness money creates often say, I want a simple life. I have no big desires. It’s not that they don’t want to explore, but they have seen how money, when uncontrolled, can bring out the worst in people.
For most, money is the source of all evil. And whoever earns more, people assume he is the source of that evil.
But today, understanding has changed. People want money no matter what. Even if they become zombies, they are ready to experience wealth—whatever it takes. If that means stealing, killing, looting, or destroying something, they will do it. There is no rope that binds them anymore.
The Only Solution: Balance Power and Activity
If you don’t learn how to handle your survival, you will spend your whole life working for money. And in the end, once you have the money, you will do reckless things.
It is time to balance power and activity. If you balance both, you either rise with power, or you act only when you need money for survival. This is the true balance of life energies.
Editor's Note
The way society perceives money is deeply flawed. Most people see it as the ultimate power, when in reality, it is just a medium of exchange. The only way to truly live is to balance power with purposeful action. If one seeks wealth without inner stability, it leads to destruction. But if one attains power with awareness, wealth is no longer a trap—it becomes a tool for growth and service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are you saying money is bad?
Parth: No. Money is neither good nor bad. It is just a tool. It is how you use it that determines its impact on your life.
Q: But don’t we need money for survival?
Parth: Of course, you do. The problem is when you think survival is all there is. If survival is handled, your focus should shift to something beyond just gathering more and more.
Q: How do I stop obsessing over money?
Parth: Just observe. If you had all the money you wanted right now, what would you do? If your answer is something foolish or reckless, you don’t need more money—you need clarity.
Q: Is being rich a bad thing?
Parth: Not at all. If you are rich and conscious, you will uplift the world. If you are rich and unconscious, you will destroy yourself and others. The problem is not wealth, but how it is handled.
Q: How do I balance power and money?
Parth: First, understand that money is not power. Power comes from awareness, clarity, and inner stability. If you have these, you will use money wisely, and it will serve you rather than enslave you.
