Wealth, Poverty, and the Illusion of Lack: Breaking Free from Comparison

What makes a person poor? Is it the absence of money, or is it something deeper? If wisdom were the highest currency, the question of rich or poor would not even exist. Yet, people suffer poverty not because they lack resources, but because they compare.

The moment your neighbor buys a Ferrari, your hard-earned millions suddenly feel like pocket change. Your perception of wealth shrinks, not because you have less, but because someone else seems to have more.

Rich or Poor – Does It Define You?

Wealth and poverty do not define who you are. They merely shape your standard of living—the level of support you’ve built to stand firm in the muddy battlefield of life. Without a solid foundation, standing tall becomes a struggle.

Imagine a man with a fractured leg. He needs a stretcher—not because he’s weak, but because he needs support to move forward. In the same way, people strive to earn—not always because they are struggling, but because they once felt crippled without money. Or perhaps, life itself fractured their leg so they would be forced to rise. The game of existence is not so linear.

Shattering the Myth of Money

Money is not a measure of human quality. It is a tool, a means of support—nothing more, nothing less. Yet, the world has turned it into an emotional battlefield. Those who have it fear losing it. Those who don’t have it suffer the burden of comparison.

Instead of seeing wealth and poverty as measures of success or failure, see them for what they truly are—simply support systems. If you have the means, stand tall. If you don’t, build the foundation to rise. But never let money define your worth.

Because the moment you stop comparing, you are already free.

In A Nutshell

Poverty doesn’t exist because people have the highest wisdom. If you had the highest wisdom, the question of rich or poor wouldn’t even arise. People feel poor because of comparison. The moment the girl next door buys a Ferrari, the lakhs in your account suddenly feel worthless.

Wealth and poverty do not define the essence of who you are; they simply determine your standard of living—the level of support you’ve built to stand tall in the mud. Without resources, standing straight becomes difficult. If someone is limping, they need a stretcher. Likewise, a person must earn enough to lift themselves out of their circumstances.

But why does one strive to earn? Is it because they are truly struggling, or because the absence of money once made them feel as though their leg was fractured? Or perhaps life itself fractured their leg so that they would be forced to rise? The possibilities are endless—that’s how life unfolds.

So, stop measuring wealth and poverty as a reflection of one’s worth. See them for what they are—just a support system. Nothing more.
