The Power of Reading to Reclaim Your Intelligence By Parth

The Power of Reading: Sharpening the Intellect in the Digital Age

In an era dominated by visual media, the profound impact of reading is often overlooked. Science suggests that the human brain processes information differently when reading compared to watching or listening. The cognitive engagement required to read activates deep analytical and reflective faculties, fostering a sharper intellect. In contrast, videos provide a passive form of consumption, where pre-packaged imagery and sound bypass the essential processes of reasoning and imagination.

The Decline of Imagination and Intellect

Before the digital age, knowledge was primarily acquired through reading and contemplation. This required individuals to engage their imagination, actively constructing mental images and interpretations. Today, with an overload of video content, the need to imagine has been largely replaced by passive absorption. This shift has led to a decline in cognitive sharpness and a tendency to jump to conclusions rather than analyze information critically.

A concept known as neuroleminal coding highlights how external stimuli influence decision-making without conscious reasoning. For example, when an advertisement flashes a "50% discount," it triggers an immediate emotional response, often leading to impulsive purchases. This is a subtle yet powerful way in which perception is manipulated. A well-trained intellect, however, filters such distractions, allowing for clearer, more deliberate decision-making.

Reading vs. Watching: A Conscious Choice

While videos and visual content serve a purpose, reading engages the mind in a more profound and personalized way. It allows for deep contemplation, uninterrupted focus, and a natural internalization of knowledge. Unlike video, which dictates the pace and interpretation, reading grants the freedom to pause, reflect, and revisit ideas, fostering true understanding.

For over a decade, we have prioritized written communication over video content. While videos may reach a broader audience, written words possess a unique power to transform individuals. When read at the right time—in the silence of the morning or the stillness of the night—written words can resonate deeply, awakening an inner clarity that videos seldom provide.

The Path to Clarity and Wisdom

True intelligence lies in the ability to see things as they are, unclouded by preconceptions. In a world saturated with visual distractions, cultivating the habit of reading can be a powerful tool for reclaiming intellectual sharpness and deepening one’s understanding of life. Knowledge should not be consumed passively but engaged with consciously. By making reading a regular practice, we refine our perception, enhance our discernment, and move closer to true wisdom.

In the end, life is not a series of pre-packaged conclusions—it is an unfolding experience that only a sharp, discerning mind can truly appreciate.

In a Nutshell

When you read, you are engaging a certain intelligence within you. This is not just about gathering information; it is a fundamental process of perception. Science tells us that the shutter speed of human intelligence aligns more with reading than with watching or listening. When you read, your cognitive faculties must process, analyze, and internalize what is being said. But when you watch a video, there is no such effort. The visuals, the sounds—they all come pre-packaged, and they impose themselves upon you.

In the past, we did not have the luxury of video-based learning. The only way to know something was to read and then imagine. That imagination was not just some idle fantasy—it was an active participation with the process of knowing. Today, we do not need to imagine anything; everything is imprinted upon us. Once an imprint is made without the necessary cognitive engagement, the sharpness of one’s intellect takes a hit. If you observe closely, people today jump to conclusions far quicker than they comprehend. Their ability to hold a thought, to analyze it, to chew on it, is diminishing.

There is something called neuroleminal coding—an unconscious conditioning that bypasses the intellect. You see an advertisement that says "50% off," and immediately, your perception is distorted. You did not even intend to buy something, but now there is a compulsion. Your memory has been hijacked. This is not intelligence at work; this is a manipulation of your cognition. The intellect, if sharp, would filter such distortions. But if the mind is filled with pre-fed imagery, if all learning is passive consumption, then discernment is lost.

I am not saying reading is the highest form of perception. No. The highest form is to simply see things as they are, without distortion. But reading has a certain organic nature to it—it does not impose itself upon you like a video. It allows for engagement, for contemplation. A video is for the masses; reading is for the individual. This is why, for the past decade, I have insisted that all our communications, whether articles or teachings, be primarily in written form. Video may reach more people, but writing transforms those who are willing to engage.

If you read something at the right time—in the stillness of morning, in the quiet of night—you will see, it shakes you from the root. This is not just words on a page; this is consciousness expressed through language. When something is written with a certain intensity of awareness, it is not mere information—it is an experience. But if your understanding is predominantly memory-based, then reading will disturb your conclusions. In such cases, a video might be more comfortable.

It is time we recognize the difference between knowing and consuming. If you truly wish to sharpen your perception, reduce the passive intake and engage with knowledge actively. Because ultimately, life is not a set of conclusions—it is a profound unfolding that only a sharp and discerning mind can navigate.
